How a custom mascot costume is made
We begin with your drawings, artwork or existing character. Together, we discuss the desired size, the person who will wear the costume, the intended environment and the movements the wearer needs to perform.
You provide drawings, images and requirements. We review shape, visibility, size and freedom of movement.
A shaped EVA or foam base may be covered with soft fabric and completed with eyes, mouth, ears and other character features.
The costume body is produced in fabric, with structural foam where required. Hands and feet may be separate components.
Inner head support, fan ventilation and slip-resistant soles are possible features, specified for each design.
Design and sample approval checkpoints are agreed before the finished costume is prepared for delivery.
Materials, fit and practical considerations
A costume needs to be recognisable and comfortable enough to use. Important points include the weight and fit of the head, visibility, airflow, movement and the durability of the materials used. Soft plush or velboa fabrics and shaped foam are common components.
Some of our earlier costume models included an inner helmet, fan and non-slip soles. The current technical specification for each new project is confirmed in the quotation. We also recommend appropriate breaks, supervision and ventilation when a costume is being worn.
What should you send for a quotation?
- Character drawings, artwork or photos, ideally showing several angles.
- Preferred dimensions, approximate wearer height and intended use.
- Any requirements for fans, airflow, vision, footwear grip and cleaning.
- Quantity, target delivery date and delivery country.
